MLS Mentor Program - JD students

Now is the time to plan ahead for the remainder of your meetings for the year. All students should aim to meet with or have remote contact with their mentor at least three to four times during the year.  Students having difficulty contacting their mentor or wishing to comment on or discuss any aspect of the program are encouraged to contact the Program Coordinator, Helen Green, Career Development Services law-careers@unimelb.edu.au

2015 Seasonal Clerkship Program with VGSO

The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) provides strategic advice and practical legal solutions to the Victorian Government and its statutory authorities. The VGSO is often involved in news-breaking matters relevant to every Victorian, including the Bushfires Royal Commission, constitutional challenges, freedom of information, native title and the Charter of Human Rights.

The Seasonal Clerkship Program is the ideal opportunity for you to explore what the VGSO has to offer and gain real practical legal experience.

The program offers a unique insight into the benefits of working as a government lawyer. Clerks work closely with a mentor at the VGSO while getting involved in real work, attending court, developing practical researching abilities and acquire a range of skills while placed in one of our five legal Branches: Government & Public Law; Commercial, Property & Technology; Litigation & Dispute Resolution; Police and Workplace Relations & Occupational Safety.

Applications must be received by Sunday, the 10th of August 2014.

The Aurora Native Title Internship Program

The Aurora Native Title Internship Program places legal, anthropology and some social science students and graduates in unpaid internships at Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs), Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) and other organisations working in native title, policy development and social justice with a focus on Indigenous affairs more generally. The program not only provides much needed assistance to host organisations but also promotes career opportunities by raising awareness of the NTRB system and attracts students and graduates to work in the sector.

Applications are open to law students who have completed the Property component of their legal studies; law graduates; as well as to related social science students and graduates (namely anthropology, archaeology, cultural heritage, environmental management, history, human geography and sociology), who demonstrate a keen interest in native title, policy and Indigenous affairs.

Applications close on the 29th of August 2014.

Research Assistant at the University of Bonn in Germany

The Institute of Private International Law and Comparative Law at the University of Bonn, Germany is looking for a Research Assistant.

The position will be half-time (50%) and will be paid at around 1.700 Euro (approx. 1.200 Euro net) per month. The contract will start on 1 October 2014. It will run for two years, with an optional to renew. Your tasks include the support in research and teaching, as well as to teach your own classes (2 hours per week), in particular in the areas of private law and private international law and/or banking and financial law.

2015 Winter Clerkship Program

HWL Ebsworth is committed to providing our Seasonal Clerks with the opportunity to gain a genuine insight into our Practice Groups and culture. The program is tailored to present you with hands-on experiences and training to develop your legal skills and knowledge whilst providing feedback, support and the chance to network with a range of practitioners throughout the firm.

To assist you in the development of your career, throughout your Clerkship, you will be exposed to a range of activities designed in accordance with key competencies developed for each Practice Group along with general legal skills training and practice management workshops.

The 2015 HWL Ebsworth Winter Clerkship Program will run for a three week period from Monday, the 6th of July 2015 to Friday, the 24th of July 2015.
