Australasian Lawyer has reported that Herbert Smith Freehills has been named Australia’s leading recruiter of law graduates for the third year in a row.

The news was announced last Thursday by GradAustralia as part of an event in Sydney honouring the top 100 graduate employers in the country.

Internship opportunity at Law Institute of Victoria (Criminal Law Section)

The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) is seeking an intern to be placed in the Criminal Law Section of the LIV’s Legal Policy Department. As an intern in the LIV’s Criminal Law Section, you will undertake research for and write LIV submissions to government departments and other key stakeholders. You will also have the opportunity to attend Executive Committee and General Committee meetings where you will meet prominent Criminal Law practitioners and be exposed to high level policy discussions. Furthermore, you will be part of a vibrant workplace culture and gain valuable practical legal experience.

Please note:
Open to JD students in second year and above who have not completed Legal internship subject (LAWS50059) before are invited to apply. It is desirable that students have completed Criminal law or have volunteer experience / demonstrated interest in criminal law.

Approximate start date will be the first or second week in March.

​2nd Year JD Re-Orientation

We are pleased to invite commencing 2nd year JD students to Re-Orientation, which will take place on Friday 24 February, 2017, from 11am – 1pm (G08), followed by lunch from 1-2pm (Student Enrichment Centre) .

The program will provide you with an overview of what to expect during your second year, as well as an opportunity to hear from the staff members involved in the second year program.

Although this day is not mandatory, we highly recommend all students attend as you will receive valuable insights that will prepare you for 2017.

  • Do you want exposure to a commercial environment whilst building your industry networks?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then this program is for you!

Macpherson Kelley in conjunction with the Melbourne Law School is running an innovation think tank throughout the month of March focusing on design thinking and how it can be used in a commercial environment.

Throughout the program you will learn more about what design thinking is, how it is applicable to a commercial environment and how businesses are successfully using it to provide an innovative working environment.

We will then challenge you to use your newly acquired skills to pitch (in the ‘shark tank’) your solution to a real life business problem. Will it float? The winning team, as selected by the ‘Sharks’ will share in $5000 prize money!
