Environment Defenders Office volunteer program — 1st semester placement applications close next Thursday, 1 March 2012

The Environment Defenders Office has a limited number of places in first semester 2012 for law students with a genuine and demonstrable interest in environmental issues and environmental law.

Students volunteer for one full day per week in the EDO office during semester, helping with administration, legal research, casework, law reform and education projects. Volunteers are based in our office at the 60L Green Building, 60 Leicester Street, Carlton; close to the Law School.

Mr Billy Wong is a partner in the Corporate Group of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe (“Orrick”) based in Hong Kong. 

His practice focuses on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and venture capital financing. Orrick’s corporate team has advised on a full range of corporate transactions including private equity, venture capital, capital markets (debt and equity) and cross-border M&A, and is widely recognized as a leading international law practice in the Greater China market. 

Mr Wong graduated from the University of Sydney Law School in 2001 and developed his legal career in Hong Kong. 

He would like to give you more understanding about Orrick, the practices of their China offices, the opportunities and good platform for career development with them, etc with a Q&A session.

Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law 2012 Student Fellowship!

The Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law (CELRL) established this Student Fellowship in 2009.  The Fellowship is intended to provide a JD or LLB student at Melbourne Law School who has an interest in Australian labour and employment law and policy, with the opportunity to gain valuable research experience in this field under the supervision of Centre members.   This is a paid position and the incumbent will be expected to spend an average of one day a week working in the Centre over nine months.

Considering an exciting career in Hong Kong? In preparation for the Hong Kong Law Fair on 22 March, the Careers Office are holding a PCLL seminar to help you understand the purpose of the PCLL as part of the process for admission to practice in Hong Kong.

In this seminar, Andrew Godwin, Lecturer at Melbourne Law School, will speak about the PCLL process as well as general aspects of living and working in Hong Kong.
