Victorian Women Laywers Mentoring Program

All female second-final year law students are invited to particpate in the Victorian Women Lawyers Mentoring Program.  Now in its fifth year, the Program has developed into a celebrated vehicle for encouraging the next generation of female lawyers to gain valuable insights into the legal profession.The progam is endorsed by The Honourable Justice Marcia Neave AO. Registration will occur online via the VWL website: www.vwl.asn.au with registration open until Friday 4 May.

UBS Investment Banking Challenge Competition now open!

Do you have what it takes to work on a real M&A transaction? Do you want to meet investment bankers from Australia's leading house?
The 2012 UBS Investment Banking Challenge offers an opportunity to test your skills on a real life transaction and gain hands-on experience of work as an investment banking analyst. To represent your university in this year's competition, form a team and register online (open 16-27 April). Campus heats take place during the second week of May. The winning team from each participating university will get to present to UBS bankers at our Sydney office and are guaranteed interviews for our summer internship program. Cash prizes are also awarded to the top three teams.

Brett Todd, Partner, Tax Services - Mergers & Acquisitions, Deloitte

Brett is an M&A Tax Partner with 14 years experience in dealing with Australian taxation matters. He leads our M&A tax team in Melbourne and has extensive experience in advising on tax due diligences, private equity structures, cross border structuring, corporate restructures and inbound investment. His role at Deloitte is to provide specialist taxation advice on mergers and acquisitions, tax structuring issues, IPOs and private equity investments.

Brett also worked with JPMorgan Chase in London where he was involved in several large banking and financing projects.

Peter Stirling, Partner, Mallesons Stephen Jaques

Peter has been a corporate lawyer for over 15 years. During that time, he has worked in large national and international law firms both in Australia and overseas. Peter specialises in mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets work. For the last eight years, he has been a partner of a large national firm leading a team of lawyers working for clients such as GE, ANZ Bank, BHP Billiton and ExxonMobil on a variety of domestic and cross border transactions. Peter has been recognised in Chambers and AsiaLaw for his work and was recently listed in the AFR list of Best Lawyers for 2012 in the M&A Category.

John Harrison, General Counsel, GE

John is the General Counsel for General Electric Australia and New Zealand. GE's global operations range from infrastructure to financial services and over the last 20 years it has made a number of significant acquisitions and dispositions in this region.

Prior to joining GE John was a senior lawyer at a major Australian bank and before that was in private practice.
