Publicly Available Internships - in Australia and across the world

Students looking for an internship over the summer are advised to look at the revised Publicly Available Internships Database (Go to the Resources section on the Melbourne Law School Work Group of Careers Online).  It lists over 100 internships in a variety of organisations in Australia and across the world, as well details on how to apply.

 

New is the “Student Contact” column – contact the Careers Office and we’ll put you in touch with students who have undertaken some of these internships and they’ll be able to give you some tips!

 

Full Court of the Federal Court - the Melbourne component of the National List of Business for the sitting period: 31 October - 25 November 2011

Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law seminar

The Centre for Employment and Labour Relations Law is pleased to invite you to its next Labour Law Seminar of 2011.

In this seminar two former Melbourne Law School students will present based on their recently published CELRL Student Working Papers.

  • Ms Caroline Kelly from MolinoCahill Lawyers in Melbourne will speak on the topic “Workplace Bullying and the Difficulties of Legal Redress in Australia”.   Caroline was awarded the Australian Industrial Relations Commission Centennial Prize and the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria Student Essay Prize in 2010 for her research paper based on this topic.
  •  Ms Trina Malone from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in Melbourne will speak on the topic Vulnerability in the Fair Work-Place: Why Unfair Dismissal Laws Fail to Adequately Protect Labour Hire Employees”.  In 2010 Trina was awarded the Freehills Prize for Employment Law.

Global Thinking - Simon McKeon: Thoughts on the Professional Workplace of the Future

GLSA event:  Graduating from the University of Melbourne with bachelor degrees in both commerce and law, Simon McKeon practised law with Sydney firm Blake Dawson Waldron, before holding the position of Executive Chairman at Macquarie Bank. He was also a director of World Vision for 15 years, and is currently serving as chairman of CSIRO and President of the Australian Takeovers Panel.

Come and hear McKeon's thoughts on where the business world is headed, what topics are likely to become salient within it, and the proficiencies and skills required to survive in the workplace of the future.
