Footscray Community Legal Centre requires Volunteers!

Published 20 Aug 2012, 10:34 am, by Claire Galofaro

The Footscray Community Legal Centre requires volunteers on an ONGOING basis for community events.

Volunteering not only looks great on your CV, but it also provides hands on practical experience and is a great way to start building your contacts in the legal profession.

The events are primarily run for refugees and other disadvantaged individuals and will be held in various locations in the Western Suburbs throughout 2012. They will provide volunteers with the opportunity of understanding entities such as ASIC and the Department of Human services and Department of Justice. They also provide volunteers with face-face interviewing experience and practice at identifying issues.

We are looking for volunteers who:

- Would like experience interviewing clients

- Have great personal skills and are patient when dealing with those of a non-English speaking background

- Available for multiple events through 2012/2013 in the Western Suburbs

Lunch is provided for all volunteers, along with the chance to work with real people and really legal and financial issues. Please email your CV with a brief cover letter to Emily, emily@footscrayclc.org.au or contact (03)9689 8444 for more information.

Attention Students! MLS Mentor Program - update & reminder meeting times available with me Thursday 23rd and 30th August. Book now!

Published 17 Aug 2012, 8:20 am, by Helen Green

Students are encouraged to contact me anytime with questions or feedback about the program/their experiences with their mentor. 15 minute appointments are available with me next Thursday 23 August @ the careers office. Book in the usual way.

Have you seen your mentor recently? Remember to plan ahead and make the most of the remaining time. Re-visit the objectives you and your mentor agreed to earlier in the year. The September mid semester break is a fantastic opportunity to meet your mentor, his/her colleagues and job shadow (if your mentor is happy to do so). Students unsure of the distinction between job shadowing and unpaid "work" (not permitted), should contact me.
