In its 10th year, Public Interest Law Week showcases a range of opportunities and available pathways into the public interest sector. There is a full schedule of events designed specifically with Melbourne JD students in mind.
Special showing of The Celluloid Closet

Part of the Reel Justice Firm Series, this film will be introduced by special faculty guest expert Beth Gaze. All are welcome and light refreshments will be provided.

Beyond Law School: Community Legal Centres
Tuesday 14 August, 6.30pm – 8.30pm, Room 109
As part of the Beyond Law School series, a panel of three community sector legal professionals will discuss their careers:
- Julian McDonald, Solicitor, Police Accountability Project at Flemington and Kensington CLC
- Hannah Fesseha, Lawyer, Inner Melbourne Community Legal
- Tess Matthews, Refugee Lawyer, WEstjustice
Following the session, students will have the opportunity to network with the panellists.

Public Interest Law Fair & Public Interest Law Careers Guide Launch
Wednesday 15 August, 5.30 – 7pm, Level 1 Function Space
The pinnacle of the Week’s program, students are invited to learn more about the public interest sector directly from representatives of Melbourne’s most prominent public interest law organisations:
Australian Government Solicitor, Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, Consumer Action Law Centre, Flemington & Kensington Community Legal Centre, JobWatch, McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer, Public Interest Law Network, Refugee Legal, Reprieve, Victoria Legal Aid, Victorian Law Reform Commission, Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, Victorian Ombudsman, Women’s Legal Service, Young Workers Centre, and Youthlaw.
From 6.00pm, Belinda Lo (Acting Executive Director, Federation of Community Legal Centres), will launch the first edition of the Public Interest Law Careers Guide. Students are welcome to collect a copy of the Guide.
