University of Melbourne Learning Club: Volunteer tutoring role with The Smith Family

The University of Melbourne (UoM) Learning Club is a partnership between the University of Melbourne, The Smith Family and Hume Central Secondary College. It aims to support students in Years 7 to 9 to improve their learning skills, build confidence and expand their aspirations through one-on-one tutoring. The Smith Family is a children's charity helping disadvantaged Australian children to get the most out of their education.

This voluntary role offers the opportunity for you to use and enhance your tutoring, mentoring and relationship skills, alongside other passionate UoM students, while also helping you develop great skills for your future employability.

As a participant in this program, you will receive:

Special training from The Smith Family to prepare you to be a volunteer tutor, and

A University of Melbourne workshop following the program - to help you explore how the skills you develop contribute to building your resume.

Participation in the Learning Club can contribute towards the Leaders in Community Award (LICA), enabling recognition of your volunteering efforts on your academic transcript.

Application Process:

Part 1:

1) Read the Position Description and ensure you can commit to the program dates.

2) Complete the application via the link - Applications close 11:55pm Monday 4 March 2019.

Part 2:

1) Applicants who have been selected for an interview will be notified by Friday 8 March.

2) Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a 30 minute interview on either Wednesday 13 March, Thursday 14 March or Friday 15 March.

3) Following the interview, successful applicants will be notified by Thursday 21 March.

Part 3:

1) The University of Melbourne will provide successful applicants with documents to complete a National Police Check (NPC) and Volunteer Working with Children Check (WWCC). All paperwork is to be completed and submitted to The Smith Family by Friday 29 March 2019.

2) Successful applicants must attend compulsory training with The Smith Family at Hume Central Secondary College on Thursday 4 April, 2:45pm-4:45pm.
