Melbourne Law School Careers Service & the Public Interest Law Initiative are hosting a series of events for Public Interest Law Week, which will run from 5-9 September, 2016.

We are pleased to invite you along to hear directly from a range of guests, as well as representatives from a number of different organisations; all events are free and relevant to current JD students considering their career pathways and options.

Young Lawyer Panel: Pathways to Public Interest

When: Tuesday 6 September, 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Where: Room 109, Melbourne Law School 

Details:We are delighted to invite students to attend a lunchtime panel event on Tuesday 6 September where our young lawyer panel will discuss their varied career pathways and provide an insight into their experiences in the sector. Our panel includes:

- Charlotte Frew: Assistant Director, Department of Premier and Cabinet (MLS alumna 2010)

- Lee Carnie: Lawyer, Human Rights Law Centre (MLS alumna 2012)

- Vincent Shin: Australia’s first School Lawyer, WEstjustice

Public Interest Law Fair

When:Wednesday 7 September, 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Where:Level 1, Melbourne Law School

Details:The annual Public Interest Law Fair is an opportunity for law students at all levels to meet directly with legal staff from public interest, government and not-for-profit organisations. Find out about volunteer, internship and employment opportunities available!

Public Interest Litigation in Australia: Prospects and Pitfalls

When:Thursday 8 September, 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Where:Lecture Theatre G08, Melbourne Law School

Details:Dr Peter Cashman will deliver a lecture on 'Public Interest Litigation: Prospects and Pitfalls' as part of this year's Public Interest Law Week. Drawing on extensive experience in public interest and class action cases in Australia, the UK and the US, Dr Cashman will discuss litigation as a strategy to achieve public interest ends, including its potential in relation to contemporary challenges such as climate change.

Please join us for drinks and light refreshments from 5.30pm – 6.00pm prior to the lecture commencing.
