Message to 1st years - Seasonal clerkships

Published 23 May 2011, 4:16 pm, by Angela Edwards

The usual time to apply for seasonal clerkships is in your penultimate year – for most JD students, this is your 2nd year.  Applications open in June.

Along with your CV and cover letter, firms like to see marks from your first 3 semesters of studying law.  For this reason, there is very little to be gained from applying in your first year.  As 1st year students, you should focus on your studies, getting the most  out of meetings with your mentor and gaining some general legal, professional or volunteering experience to enhance your CV for next year.
