GPA information for seasonal clerkship applications
We have been receiving a number of enquiries from students asking the Law School to provide information on their GPA, weighted averages and ranking for inclusion with their clerkship applications.
The information that the Law School provides with respect to average results for 2010-2012 in compulsory subjects can be found at http://www.law.unimelb.edu.au/jd/current-students/assessment-and-results/2010-2011-results-averages. Law firms will expect to see your full transcript of results to date with your application. The information on this website can help put them into context that you or a potential employer might find useful.
In addition, you will be able to calculate your GPA for yourself from your individual subject marks. If all of the subjects you have completed are equally weighted (i.e. all 12.5 points), your weighted average mark will simply be your average mark. There are several systems of calculating a GPA , so students should confirm with the firm which system they are referring to if the firm requires a GPA. This does not require reference to the Student Centre as Melbourne Law School does not have an official GPA system.
The Law School also does not provide students with their indicative ranking for clerkship applications. It provides indicative rankings to current students under certain limited and defined circumstances only, where they are required for particular purposes (for example when students are applying for certain degree partnerships) (for example when students are applying for certain degree partnerships). Most clerkship applications do not require students to provide their ranking. However, if you are able to provide evidence that your ranking is required for an application, the Student Centre will consider your request.
Please note that all students will be able to receive their final ranking after the completion of their degree. Please refer to the following webpage for more details: http://www.law.unimelb.edu.au/jd/current-students/assessment-and-results/recognition-of-student-academic-excellence.
