2017 LIV Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary
Applications are now open for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander law graduate or final year student to be awarded one (1) bursary to undertake the College of Law Victoria’s (COLV) practical legal training program (PLT) in 2016/17.
The bursary, valued at $8,820, is an important part of the LIV’s reconciliation action plan (RAP) which aims to assist an outstanding student to help them realise their goal of becoming a lawyer. COLV’s PLT is an accredited course of practical legal training for admission as an Australian lawyer in Victoria as an alternative to ,supervised workplace training.
ELIGIBILITY
• Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
• Have completed or are in the final year of study towards an LLB or JD at a recognised Australian university.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants must complete a one (1) page statement addressing the following selection criteria:
• What challenges you have had to overcome in order to achieve your degree i.e. demonstrated financial hardship.
• What personal contribution(s) do you make to your community e.g. voluntary legal work,
participation in reconciliation activities or equivalent.
• Evidence of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background e.g. a certified letter from your local cooperative or recognised Elders.

• Current resume.
• Certified academic transcript.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Bursary funds are used to pay for the full tuition costs associated with COLV’s PLT program and may be eligible for support services e.g. access to mentors and tutors.
