Moreland business and household demographics

Description of project and your duties

This project consists of three parts:

  • A.Spatial assessment of Moreland businesses and household demographics
  • Collate and review pre-existing lists of Moreland businesses, with a view to identifying specific business clusters (geographic groupings of like businesses)
  • Using mapping software identify clusters with opportunity for solar generation
  • Update list of solar bulk buy household customers and identify specific clusters to target with community activation projects
  • B.Graphic presentation of business demographic findings
  • Prepare discreet lists of Moreland businesses in MS Excel format, according to geographic and other criteria, for subsequent export and presentation in other internal software
  • C.Develop and define a business demographic methodology
  • Propose and document an efficient methodology, for spatial identification and clustering, that can be used with future MEFL campaigns
  • Compile findings into a concise report for MEFL’s internal consideration.

This task will support Zero Carbon Evolution, an ambitious strategy developed by MEFL and Moreland City Council to achieve a 22 per cent reduction in carbon emissions across the Moreland community by 2020.

Skills required:

  • A background, and/or keen interest, in sustainability within the business sector is desirable.
  • This volunteer role may suit a student, and could be completed as a student placement, depending on your course requirements. Please check work placement requirements with your course coordinator if you are seeking course credit. Dates and duration can be negotiated to suit course requirements, although the project needs to be completed within the timeframes indicated below.

Dates: 1-2 days per week, beginning as soon as possible.

Duration: Two months. Parts A and B of this project are expected to be delivered within one month. Part C is expected to be completed in the subsequent period of one month.
