You are invited to participate in a series of experiments designed to investigate your judgment of
either statements or stories depicting social actions. These statements or stories will be
presented to you on a computer screen. Your task would be to provide your attitude towards each
statement or story. During the task it is important to us that your responding is not affected by
your facial movement. To address this, we will use a technique common in social psychology
research, of holding a pen lightly across your teeth or lips. Your task would be to rate the
stimuli while holding a pen across your mouth in various positions. You will also be asked to fill
out several questionnaires afterwards. These measures will gauge individual differences in various
kinds of psychological traits.
Each experiment is expected to have a duration of less than 1 hour. The experiment will take place
in the Social Psychology Precinct, on the 4th floor of the Redmond Barry building.
The responsible investigator is Dr Simon Laham in The School of Psychological Sciences at the
University fo Melbourne. This project has been approved by the University of Melbourne Human
Research Ethics Committee (1545596.2).
