Monash University Sleep and Circadian Medicine Laboratory is conducting a study examining the effects of light on the timing of sleep in healthy participants.

What does the study is involve?
  • An initial consenting interview
  • A meeting with a sleep physician & a psychological screening assessment
  • Maintaining a regular sleep schedule at-home for 2-3 weeks, which is monitored by a wearing wrist watch device
  • Collection of saliva samples over a single evening in your home
  • A six-day stay at the Monash B.A.S.E sleep laboratory. This will involve neurobehavioral testing, monitoring of your sleep and circadian patterns, non-invasive biological sampling, two periods of extended wakefulness up to 30 hours and exposure to light.
  • Who can take part?

  • You are a male with healthy sleep (regular sleep/wake time and no difficulty sleeping)
  • You have no history of psychiatric or neurological illness, and substance abuse disorder
  • You are not taking any medications that might affect sleep (e.g., melatonin, sedatives)
  • You have not undertaken shift work in the last 3 months
  • You are a non-smoker
  • You are of Caucasian background
  • You are a native English speaker
  • You have not undertaken transmeridian travel in the last 3 months

  • Will I be reimbursed?

    You will be compensated $1750 for completion of all components of the study.
