Participants Wanted for Research on Mobile Phones - $50 payment

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne seeking participants for my doctoral research. The research looks at the ways in which we use mobile messaging to organise face-to-face socialising.

To help me understand this better I am looking for participants who can share how messaging works in their social lives. Participation will involve an initial meeting to explain the research, and two rounds of research held approximately two months apart. Each round will include:

• Providing a selection of your messaging activity. You will only be asked to provide small messaging histories and will be in complete control of what the researchers see. This may take one to two hours depending on the amount of data you wish to provide and the degree to which you wish to edit it.
• An interview. This will be scheduled for two weeks after providing the messaging data and will take around 45mins to one hour. It will be conducted in person at a location of mutual convenience.

Participants are not required to be students of the university, though they can be. They must however be between 18-30 years of age, speak fluent English and use messaging regularly. You won’t be identified by name in the research, and all necessary measures will be taken to protect your privacy.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in graduate level research, reflect on the role of technology in your life and contribute to academic discussions about the social implications of mobile communication. I’ll also offer you $50 cash in appreciation of your time.
