ANTHROPOLOGY
SOCIAL SCIENCE INTERNSHIPS
AURORA NATIVE TITLE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Program introduces students and graduates of anthropology and other social sciences (archaeology, cultural heritage, environmental
management, history, human geography and sociology) to career opportunities in native title, policy development, social justice and
Indigenous affairs.

The Program aims to provide assistance to the anthropology and research staff of underresourced and over-worked Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs), Prescribed Bodies
Corporate (PBCs) as well as to various other organisations working in these areas including Indigenous corporations, government bodies, community groups and other policy organisations.
There are two intakes for interns annually, during the summer and winter university breaks, for five to six weeks, with some flexibility. Applications open in March and August of each year.
NTRBs employ lawyers, anthropologists and other researchers, field officers and administrative staff to represent and support Indigenous communities in native title claims, advocacy and
other negotiations. Other host organisations advocate policies of reconciliation and equal rights for Indigenous Australians while some provide assistance to Indigenous communities with cultural
heritage activities, as well as associated business and community-based initiatives.

NTRBs, PBCs and other host organisations are located in:

Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Broome, Cairns,
Camooweal, Canberra, Darwin, Geraldton,
Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Kununurra, Melbourne, Perth,
Port Hedland, Sydney and Thursday Island.

Longer paid placements
Applications are also open to anthropology and other social science students and graduates as well as qualified anthropologists and archaeologists,
usually following on from an internship. Placements can start at two months and may continue for up to one year. Duties, conditions and remuneration vary
from position to position.

Applications
Applications for the winter 2014 round of internships will be accepted online via our website between 9am AEST Monday 3rd March through
to 5pm AEST Friday 28th March 2014.
