Job description:
One internship position is available in the Melbourne Airport site and/or the Mail Centre within the Passenger and Mail area. The Passenger and Mail Section manage the biosecurity clearance of mail and passengers within the Border Compliance Division.
The Border Compliance division manage the biosecurity clearance of cargo, shipping, mail, vessels and passengers, and administers biosecurity third party arrangements in Australia and internationally.
Preferred university degrees/conditions
• Students with a disability studying: Agriculture or Horticulture
Work activities
Please see below the details:
1. Under supervision, perform a range of the routine Biosecurity inspection functions that will include:
• Assisting in the inspection and clearance of imported goods. The assessment and clearance of passengers and mail items.
• Assisting in the clearance of Aircraft granting pratique for arriving aircraft into Australia.
• using relevant resources and information technology to determine the biosecurity status of imported goods; and
• Assistance in issuing formal DAFF documentation to clients including importers and brokers.
2. Interaction with passengers and staff from other government agencies in the airport environment
3. Maintaining appropriate manual and computerised records as required.
4. Work effectively and safely in accordance with APS values and code of conduct within a team environment to achieve operational requirements.
