The University of Melbourne is developing a new Advancing Students and Education (ASE) strategy that will outline the ways in which the Advancing Melbourne priorities that impact our students and guide our work in teaching, learning and the broader student experience will be realised during the period 2023 – 2030.

During 2022 Chancellery (Academic) will be consulting widely across the University community to seek views, ideas, and inputs into the strategy and will require the support of Student Ambassadors. The ASE Student Ambassadors will assist with actively promoting the strategy process and engagement activities to other students and facilitate student interactions with the consultation process.

Student Ambassadors will perform a variety of tasks to support the ASE organising team. These tasks include:

  • Assist the project team to create communication material targeted at students and to design engagement events to best elicit student feedback and participation
  • Meet regularly with the ASE organising team and the staff team of moderators/provocateurs (approximately up to one hour per fortnight in busy periods)
  • Actively contribute to the ASE Learning Management Site by taking part in online discussions, adding relevant resources and participating in other activities as required
  • Actively contributing to consultation and engagement activities such as ‘Town Hall’ events, roundtables, workshops etc as required
  • Assisting with physical and digital events (Town Halls / roundtables etc), including set-up, running and pack down
  • Work collaboratively with the ASE organising team and other stakeholders across the University community
  • Work collaboratively with any external partners supporting the ASE strategy

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Motivation for the Ambassador role – provide a statement explaining how you feel you can contribute to the strategy
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of previous leadership or community/peer engagement experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build effective relationships with peers and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with the Learning Management System (Canvas)
  • Access to own device for online activities.


Candidates who are successful in progressing to the second stage of the recruitment process will be required to attend an Assessment Centre on the 5th May 2022.

Assignment duration: May 2022– November 2022

It is anticipated that the ASE Student Ambassadors will work approximately 25 hours from April – November 2022, with a peak period across May through to July. The shifts may include evenings and will be a mix of remote working and in-person activities (mainly at the Parkville campus). Shifts will vary and there may be multiple shifts available in one week and in other weeks there may be none. Shifts will evolve alongside the strategy and engagement activities.
