Participants: We are looking for healthy students or members of the public who are between 18 and 40 years of age, who are right handed and who are fluent speakers of English (preferably, English spoken at home).

Project Background Information: Much is known about the brain processes that underlie emotion and motivation, but there are still many ambiguities. In this project we wish to examine a particular neural marker (obtained by recording EEG or ‘brain waves’) that has been implicated in different positive motivation and emotion states. It is hoped that this research will help us to better understand the psychological significance of this neural marker.

What participants will do in this study: When you arrive at the Personality Processes Lab, you will be greeted and provided with a Plain Language Statement, which contains detailed information about the study. You will then complete a consent form and provide some basic demographics, along with a set of questionnaires assessing personality and mood.  You will then be invited to accompany the experimenter to the EEG lab. Here, EEG will be recorded while you complete several tasks requiring you to respond to motivationally and/or emotionally salient stimuli of a positive nature (e.g., pleasant pictures, money). Participation will take no longer than 2.5 hours.

Remuneration: Participants will be compensated for their time
