We are currently partnering with The Australian Department of Defence. The Defence Science and Technology (DST) is looking for an Engineering PhD student to work on an exciting new study focusing on potential aspects of the design and operation of vessels in Australia's Future Submarine program. This program will study fundamental aspects of the production of underwater sound and vibration by bubbles formed from the hull of a navy vessel.
As our PhD student, you will develop and utilise advanced mathematical and numerical modelling techniques with the aim to understand and predict the multiphase and compressible gas-liquid processes that lead to the underwater noise signatures of bubbles.
You will have the opportunity to work closely with academics at Swinburne and the University of Melbourne who have combined two decades of research experience in bubble acoustics, and with specialists at DST.
About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Demonstrated understanding of fundamental fluid mechanics
• Demonstrated high level of tertiary engineering mathematics
• Demonstrated programming skills in one or more of C, C++ and Matlab
It is a requirement of DST that only students with Australian citizenship will be considered.
