Come Volunteer At the LWRC!
The Laos Wildlife Rescue Centre (LWRC) is the first and only multi-species
centre in Laos that rescues, rehabilitates, and releases wildlife caught up in
the illegal wildlife trade back to a life in the wild. Lao PDR is
sadly a hotspot for the illegal wildlife trade in South East Asia; due
to this and the scale of our project, all volunteers at LWRC make a
direct impact to the wildlife here in Laos!
At the LWRC, we currently care for a huge variety of species numbering
just under 600 animals, some of these include Macaques, Gibbons
Hornbills, Slow Loris, Bears, Crocodiles, Deer, Civets, Jackals,
Elephant, Leopard, Binturong, Reptiles and many others.
Here we have the facilities to take long-term individual students such
as placements and also internships for related fields of study. There is a variety of
activities that would be of great benefit to you at the
centre depending on your areas of interest. We can offer hands-on
wildlife husbandry experience and training coached by our management
team and coordinators. We can also facilitate individual and group
wildlife research projects, such as studies on behaviour, nutrition,
health, and husbandry, as well as studies monitoring the effects of the
illegal wildlife trade and the rehabilitation process. As well, final year vet students
can have the opportunity to shadow our on-site wildlife veterinarian and gain
invaluable experience with Southeast Asian taxa.
