Yes! Then AutoHack18 is the summer hackathon for you.

AutoHack18 is a unique, extended-form hackathon focused on automation. It is open to all current University of Melbourne students and will run across the summer of 2017/18. The event is hosted by the University of Melbourne's Networked Society Institute and run in collaboration with Ciena and nbn.

AutoHack18 is seeking applications from University of Melbourne students from all year levels and across all disciplines to join us in creating positive social good through automation. You will have the opportunity to form teams with peers and collaborate to deliver an impactful product that will open up new personal opportunities to enhance your career.

For example, these ideas might improve healthcare, or make automated vehicles safer, or help deliver next generation 5G services to businesses—but it’s up to you and your team to come up with the winning answer!

About the hackathon

AutoHack18 is a partnership between Ciena, nbn and the University of Melbourne.

The hackathon will run for will run from 1 December to 1 February 2018.

Teams will compete to create an application on-top of Ciena’s industry leading Blue Planet automation tool. You will demonstrate your application to a panel of experts on 1 February 2018, with the winning team the project the project that:

  • Is the most innovative
  • Demonstrates social impact
  • Shows commercial potential

First Prize

The first prize is a five-day trip to Silicon Valley for three people, courtesy of Ciena. More prizes will be announced in coming weeks.

Team support

The top five ideas of the first pitch round will be supported with $1,000 to purchase hardware.

All teams will have access to Blue Planet and the NSI Open Lab Days.
