The Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP) - an initiative of, and funded by, the Department of Defence
APPLICATIONS OPEN 11 SEPTEMBER AND CLOSE 8 OCTOBER 2017
AITEC - in conjunction with the Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN) - will be assisting both penultimate and final year Engineering Postgraduate students and Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) to partner in an exciting opportunity, the Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP). Initially funded for two rounds, the Department of Defence has continued to support the Program and has recently extended for a sixth round in the 2017/18 financial year.
The intent of DEIP is to increase engineering students' level of interest and participation in defence industry, particularly with SMEs. The program pairs up to 30 selected engineering students for 12 week internships with selected defence industry SMEs from around Australia.
DEIP provides Australian defence SMEs with the opportunity to market defence industry as an innovative, interesting and viable career path to engineering students who undertake a sponsored work placement in their firm. The program attracts high performing engineering students and exposes them to defence work. With better capability, defence SMEs are better placed for commercial success in an increasingly competitive global market place.
To assist both the students and the SMEs with this placement, DEIP provides financial incentives funded by the Department of Defence. The participating engineering students are employed by the SME for the period of the internship and the SME also receives financial incentives to cover the cost to host the interns as well as reimbursement for the intern's payments.
Due to security clearance requirements all applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
The placements will be managed by AITEC, an experienced educational project management organisation. For further information about AITEC, go to https://www.aitec.edu.au/deip/
