Study Melbourne Language & Internship Program in China – an immersive experience for Victorian university students.

The Study Melbourne Language and Internship Program offers Victorian students the opportunity for language study, cultural engagement and an internship placement in a globally reputable company in China. The program includes three weeks of language study at a Chinese university, followed by a five-week internship placement. Through this program, participants will build on their Asia capabilities and become business, cultural and educational ambassadors for Victoria.

The program takes place in Beijing from November 22nd 2017 to January 13th 2018. It provides:

  • 60 hours of Mandarin training
  • internship placement
  • accommodation for 8 weeks

Students are required to fund:

  • meals and personal expenses
  • flights & transportation in-country
  • medical/travel insurance
  • visa fees & processing.


The program is open to currently enrolled Victorian tertiary students, international and domestic, aged 18 and above. All discipline areas and industries will be considered, including public, private, not-for-profit, and creative and academic industries.

Applicants need to demonstrate how the program would benefit their future study plan, future career plan and relevant industry, both locally and in engagement with China.

Students completing their studies at the end of 2017 are not eligible for this program.

How to proceed?
The University of Melbourne is able to nominate five student candidates. Applications must be submitted by midnight on Monday, 17 July 2017 and will be assessed by the University. 

The five shortlisted candidates will then be contacted by the Study Melbourne team and asked to submit a further application which will include video responses to set questions.
